Claire’s Pen,  July – Aug 2009

Kelly has at last found a happy home. It is in a rural location with a field just beyond the back garden. The first day he spent under the bed but in the evening came down to do a bit of lap sitting. His new mum is in interior designer and the house rather reflects that, so I hope he is not scratching too much furniture.

Heidi’s kittens are now almost four months old and have all been homed. Hattie, Hector and Harvey went to people who already owned one cat, and Hazel and Herbi together to a country home.

If you remember back in June I went on holiday leaving Kelly with another fosterer. When I returned I decided that as I was getting too fond of him he had better stay there, so instead I brought home four black and white gypsy kittens, Beko (the only boy), Maria, Rosa and Isabel. They had been living with some travellers next to a busy road and soon settled into my pen, looking forward to their daily treat at bedtime, a bowl of cat milk. Rosa and Isabel were the first to go, to a home in Whitchurch. Beko and Maria (the only fluffy one) went a week later to a nice lady from Andover, an occupational therapist.

Meanwhile, pen space all in use, Rixi and Roland were living in a large Majestic cage in my kitchen. They were handed in by a man who claimed that he had found them running wild but they are lovely kittens, obviously very much handled and loved and I think they must have come from his family home. Our fund raising officer, whose elderly cats had recently died was very taken with them and they have now moved in there. The picture shows them in their new home.

Unfortunately not all our stories are so happy. We have recently had to take in a number of aged cats who had obviously been abandoned. One of these is Merle, who is now residing in my pen. She has milliary dermatitis, which means that her fur is thin and her skin covered with lumps and bumps, but she has had steroid injections to cure this and she is comfy and eating well. I will do my best to find her a new home.
